Manningham is locatedĀ 12 kmĀ from Melbourne, Victoria and gateway to the Yarra Valley, bringing a unique combination of both cosmopolitan city and country lifestyles together over a total land area of 114 square kilometres.
Manningham includes the suburbs of Bulleen, Doncaster, Doncaster East, Donvale, Nunawading (part), Park Orchards, Ringwood North (part), Templestowe, Templestowe Lower, Warrandyte, Warrandyte South and Wonga Park.
The Station is situated on the border of Lower Templestowe and Bulleen at an altitude of 61metres.
The situation is not ideal as the Station sits in a slight depression/gully on a rising hill partially surrounded by higher ground from the South South West around to the East.
It has good exposure from the West to North North East.
Vantage Pro 2
Vantage Pro 2 can transmit and receive data up to 300 m line of sight. It records the maxima and minima (and/or totals or averages) for virtually all the weather variables for the past 24 days, months, or year..
The station measures barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed, direction and calculates wind chill and other parameters.
A second Temperature/Humidity Transmitter is used to validate the primary source.
The equipment has been separated to gain maximum exposure and performance.
The digital sensors are located in a Stevenson Screen, the Rain Gauge has best exposure to all points of the compass and the windvane and anemometer are part of a complex elevated to 15m above ground. The topography surrounding the station has a shadow to the South and East due to higher ground.
A 2 stage self supporting Nally Radio Tower is the infrastructure to support the wind instruments.
The Davis Windvane is installed separately to the arrangement.
The larger patterned Windvanes have been engineered for further study for windvane performance and phenomena.
The turning point for the vanes is a duplex bearing arrangement sitting at the top of the pivot with a bronze sleeve supporting the cover at the bottom.
The vanes are based on Standard Windvane Pattern as described by Bureau of Meterology.
Each vane was balanced to within 0.5gm
This is the Short-arm model.
Weather Display is used to process and store the Data.
Recent times (June 2017) Weather Display has been randomly freezing for no apparent reason, with a subsequent loss of data. A reset was required every month. Since January 2020, the USB Power Management setting 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' has been unchecked. To date, no further issues have been experienced. Sandaysoft "Cumulus" is being run on a second server as further backup.
The Screen is on a standpipe to allow the electronic sensors and mercury thermometers to be 1200mm above ground level.
The screen was imported from England and was not flatpack. Final assembly of the thermometer support was required.
